A few weeks ago, Maddie and I were at Home Depot and ran across a cute hummingbird feeder and decided we wanted to get one of our own. We had gone to Michael's a few months ago and bought birdhouses that we're still in the process of painting (yet ANOTHER unfinished project we've got going on!) so we decided to get the feeder so we could get some immediate gratification of watching the birds visit our backyard. We have a big palo verde in our backyard that attracts alot of birds, especially the cactus wrens that Grandma loves so much (just kidding...they drive her crazy!) so we thought a hummingbird feeder would be perfect. We hung it from our palo verde (if you look real close, you can see it!) and the other day, we were standing by the back door and Maddie happened to look outside at just the right moment and see a hummingbird at the feeder. She got so excited and yelled as loud as she could, "Hey, Josh. Look outside! We've got our first customer!" It cracked us both up! She kept track a few more times, screaming out, "Looks like our third customer's here for dinner!" but then finally gave up and has moved onto bigger and better things, like the lizards in our backyard... stories for yet another day.
The Arches!
These pictures are of a trip Josh just took to the Arches last week with a bunch of buddies from Utah. It was awesome and from what he tells me plus all the pictures, it sounds like he had a total blast. On their last day there, they took a grueling ten-mile hike that just about tested everybody to the max, literally climbing straight down (and back up) through the rock structures without any foot or hand holds, having to use their backs and arms to brace themselves as they climbed up and down through the rocks....sounds like a blast (NOT!) for us armchair adventurers! He still can barely move from the hike! One of the pictures in the slide show is of a lady who was tucked away among the rocks, playing Indian music on some instrument, similar to the flute. Josh said it sounded so cool to hear her play that beautifully haunting music among the rocks. It's so beautiful here....just another trip I have added to Maddie's and my "Must Do" list in the not-so-distant future!

Justin and Erica in beautiful Gettysburg: February 2009
When Justin and Erica traveled back east for a few weeks in February, their favorite stop, by far, was Gettysburg. They absolutely fell in love with it and sent me, literally, hundreds of pictures. They were fascinated by its rich history and captivated by the sheer beauty and quaintness of the town. Though I've never visited there, my sister tells me that as pretty as Gettysburg is in February, when these pictures were taken, it is absolutely breathtaking in the spring when everything begins to turn green and the flowers begin to bloom after the long, cold winter. I literally had to go through several hundred pictures to select some for the blog but the few that I have chosen do not even begin to tell the story of Gettysburg. I hope y0u enjoy them as much as I have and please ask Justin and Erica if you have any questions...they have become experts on the area and would love to pass on their knowledge (especially when it comes to the ghosts!)
I love hummingbird feeders. I need Maddie to hang my feeders. Has Maddie ever counted how many times they flap their wings in one minute? Speeking of customers; Shelbi had a lemonade stand up here today. I walked out to check on her and Trist, and two pickups were driving off; the guys in the pickups had tatoos on their arms; I asked, who were those guys? She said nonchalantly, "oh, just some gangsters." It takes all kinds of customers.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to get outdoors, great therapy for just about anything. I don't guess it matters all that much what you do....today I went crawdad fishing with bacon, ham, hotdog, and peperoni as bait and sticks and string. Shelbi and Triston led the way...our heroes! Elyze, Marian, Alex, and even Hallie were catching on quick. What do you do with crawdads when you actually catch them? Anyway, we got a little sunshine (AND WIND!)
